Since the event includes free concerts from The Samples and The Wailers (the reggae band made famous by Family Man and Bob Marley) in addition to the freestyle competition, the web is a perfect medium to reach out.

Video was selected because watching some of the world’s most incredible winter sports athletes perform aerials, flips, and amazing moves is something that has to be seen. The video also highlights scenes of downtown Park City Utah which helps promote tourism for the Park City Chamber to those who want to use the web to see the destination and what is offered to those who visit.

<itunes:summary>George Wright, Marketing Director at Blendtec, invited us back stage for the filming of Blendtec's next "Will it Blend" video. Currently YouTube's #3 most watched video producer, Blendtec has found an amazing ROI for their $50 marketing spend. With over 6 million visitors to their WillitBlend.com web site in just five (5) short days, it's been like hitting the mother-lode for the typically under-the-radar commercial small appliance manufacturer. More interesting than the awareness is Blendtec's use of blogs, RSS, and comments from watchers/readers to feed future creative. And with over 10,000 comments from prospects in 10 days since their campaign launch, there's certainly no shortage of ideas.

Tom Dickson, the chief actor and executive office at Blendtec, establishes trust through his "extreme blending" product demos and down-home personality. As Wright says, "what you see is what you get." Destined to be an MBA business case classic, Blendtec spins up a brand-building showcase through its use of social media technology that even the hippest Madison Avenue firms are struggling to figure out.

Ray Noorda
Born: June 19, 1924, in Ogden, Utah
Died: October 9, 2006, in Orem, Utah
Education: Ogden High School, Ogden, Utah, Weber State College in Ogden, Utah. Graduated University of Utah, 1949, BS, cum laude, in Electrical Engineering

Few people in technology have had the impact of Ray Noorda, especially when you consider the few truly large, public, non-Silicon Valley tech businesses. Sure Novell (NASDAQ:NOVL) has had it’s challenges over the past years, but it continues to employ thousands of people and support world-wide operations. Not many tech companies can claim that.

Ray Noorda’s Dutch immigrant parents and his own depression era experience helped form the core foundation that set Mr. Norda apart from the Ferrari-driving, dotcom-era execs. The stories of “Ray’s old pickup” are famous. His management leadership came from GE and personal experience with incubating and growing technology solutions that solved business and customer needs.

Utah Governor Jon M. Huntsman, Jr., said,

“Ray was one of the innovators of the Utah Miracle. He launched what would become Utah’s technology sector. He has left behind a monumental legacy and we are all in his debt. He will be deeply missed.”
- from Canopy Ventures

Today, Mr. Nooda’s legacy for growing technology companies lives on through the Canopy Ventures, an early-stage venture capital firm based in Utah. Canopy has investments in more than 100 companies and extensive philanthropic activities.

Rocky Mountain Voices salutes the contribution and legacy Ray Noorda provided to many of us who got our start in technology because of Novell. We produced a special podcast to honor this legacy with interviews from Ty Mattingly, David Bradford, Darl McBride, Ron Heinz, Ransom Love, and Drew Major.

Podcast tribute is posted at PodTech.net.

Thanks to all who came to support the Meet-Up tonight. We had a great turn out. John Furrier provided a great overview of what’s happening in the Podcasting space — John talks about “morecasting” which is a lot more than just audio recordings.

The mingle was great as you could hear from the noise level. The Loco Lizard choc cake was fantastic. And personally, I appreciated hearing Mike Masse’s many covers of Radiohead.
